Avoid razor bumps - here's how

How to prevent razor bumps when shaving

Shaving is annoying enough as it is - but if you strain yourself only to be rewarded with red, itchy razor bumps afterwards? Absolutely unfair.

You want that smooth, freshly shaved skin feeling... but you often only get small bumps. And not only are they unsightly, they can also really hurt.

The good news: razor bumps are 100% avoidable. With the right preparation, technique and care, you can avoid them - or even prevent them completely with other methods.

🔍 What causes razor bumps?

In short: razors - particularly blunt blades with several blades. Razor bumps are caused by ingrown hairs that bend under the skin or pierce it instead of growing out smoothly. They often look like small pimples and occur particularly on the face, legs or in the genital area - especially in people with curly or thick hair.

🪒 S having techniques against razor bumps

  • Use shaving gel or foam: protects the skin from friction.

  • Shave with the stroke: Especially for curly hair - reduces ingrown hairs.

  • Shave less often: give your skin time to regenerate.

  • Shave at the end of the shower: when the hair is soft and puffy.

  • Use sharp blades: Blunt blades cut unevenly - ideal for ingrown hairs.

  • Single blade razor: Cuts the hair above the skin - ideal for prevention.

💆♀️ The best care products

  • Preparation:

    • Wash skin with a mild, non-comedogenic cleanser

    • Gently exfoliate 24-48 hours before shaving

  • During shaving:

    • Use shaving foam with aloe, coconut oil or shea butter

  • After shaving:

    • Apply moisturizer

    • Wear loose-fitting cotton clothing

    • Continue to exfoliate 1-2× per week

For sensitive skin:
Choose unscented products and do a patch test beforehand.

For the intimate area:
Only use gentle formulas that are suitable for this area.

For thick hair:
Apply a warm cloth before shaving and always use shaving foam.

🧴 Long-term solution: simply leave out the razor

The safest method against razor bumps: replace the razor permanently.
These include:

  • Waxing & epilating: Hair removal at the root every 2-4 weeks

  • Permanent methods such as laser or IPL

With the Shinie IPL device, you can get rid of hair and razor bumps permanently - gently, painlessly and from the comfort of your own home. In just 6-12 weeks, the hair follicles are destroyed by pulses of light. This works on the body, face and intimate areas.

As you still have to shave before every IPL treatment, the new tips will still help you - only that you will soon have to reach for the razor much less often.
